Pentagon Confirms Livestream of Fort Hood Shooter’s Execution

The U.S. Department of Defense has confirmed that the public will be permitted to watch the execution of Nidal Hasan via livestream. Hasan, a former Army major, is scheduled to be put to death by firing squad on December 3 at Fort Hood in Texas.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on Thursday that the administration intends to make the proceeding transparent. “We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public,” Hegseth said, emphasizing the need for the public to understand the severe repercussions of such actions. Speaking to Real America’s Voice, he added that Hasan would face a firing squad composed of soldiers, describing the method as appropriate.

The execution marks the first time the U.S. military has carried out a death penalty sentence since the end of World War II. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed on Monday that Hegseth recommended the execution and that President Donald Trump approved the decision.

An official from the Defense Department told the BBC that the broadcast would cover the execution of Hasan, who killed 13 unarmed soldiers during a rampage at Fort Hood in 2009. The BBC has reached out to the White House to determine whether President Trump supports the decision to livestream the event.

Hasan, a psychiatrist from Virginia, pleaded guilty in 2013 and apologized for his actions, though he claimed during his court-martial that he believed he was protecting Muslims and the Taliban in Afghanistan. The November 5, 2009 attack inside a crowded medical building, where soldiers were awaiting check-ups and vaccines, remains the deadliest non-combat incident on an American military base in history.
