OpenAI has officially introduced Dots, a new agent platform that prioritizes professional utility over casual interaction. While the company also released Meta Muse, which features highly approachable avatars, Dots are positioned distinctly as workplace software that retains the ability to handle personal tasks such as ordering food.
Announced earlier this week, the platform features blobby, anthropomorphic avatars that users can personalize with names. Initially, each user is assigned a single agent, though OpenAI has indicated that support for multiple Dots will be added in the future.
The user interface mirrors that of Meta Muse, dividing the screen into two sections: one for chatting with the agent and another for tracking its progress as it completes tasks. Early impressions suggest that Dots are designed to feel like serious professional tools rather than purely conversational companions.
