Netflix Unveils Trailer for ‘The Altruists’ FTX Drama Series

Netflix is set to release a new dramatization of the crypto collapse with its upcoming series, “The Altruists.” The show, which explores the events surrounding the FTX scandal and the subsequent imprisonment of its founders, will premiere on November 19.

The recently dropped trailer stars Anthony Boyle as Sam Bankman-Fried and Julia Garner as Caroline Ellison. The series delves into the ethical contradictions inherent in the effective altruism movement that underpinned the exchange’s public image.

Graham Moore, who serves as co-showrunner, expressed his fascination with the real-life subjects during a summer interview with Netflix. He noted that the complexity of Bankman-Fried and Ellison’s stories was something he felt incapable of inventing, stating, “I’m not nearly a good enough writer to create characters as fascinating as either Sam Bankman-Fried or Caroline Ellison.”

The release date positions the series just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Its arrival comes amid a broader trend of media productions examining high-profile tech controversies, including upcoming documentaries about other prominent figures in the industry.

  1. Anthony Boyle as SBF? That’s a bold choice. Hope he captures the disarming charm that made the whole thing possible.

  2. Effective altruism twisted into fraud is such a disturbing real-life plot. Really curious how they handle the moral decay arc.

  3. Another crypto drama? We just got used to the documentaries. Does Netflix run out of ideas for financial thrillers?

  4. Julia Garner is always a must-watch. Hope this does justice to the complexity of what actually happened.
