Meta Unveils VR Glasses and AI Pendant as Zuckerberg Pushes Virtual Reality and Agent Strategy

During the Meta Connect developer conference held at its Menlo Park headquarters on September 23, 2026, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced two new hardware products: the Meta VR Glasses and the Muse Charm pendant. The reveal underscores the company’s dual focus on advancing virtual reality technology and integrating AI agents into consumer devices.

The new Meta VR Glasses represent a significant departure from the company’s existing Quest-branded headsets. Described as smaller and slimmer, the glasses are priced at $1,299 and are scheduled for release in spring 2027. This marks Meta’s first entry into a glasses-form-factor VR device since the launch of the more affordable Quest 3S in 2024.

Zuckerberg highlighted that the glasses utilize an external puck containing a Qualcomm processor and battery. This design choice helps reduce the weight of the eyewear while delivering higher-resolution visuals than previous models. The device also features sensors for eye and hand tracking, allowing users to interact with the virtual environment without traditional controllers. “We have built a new kind of VR device that delivers the same magical feeling of presence and immersion… in a form factor that is a pair of glasses for the first time,” Zuckerberg said.

Alongside the glasses, Meta introduced the Muse Charm, a handheld device designed to interface with the company’s recently launched Muse AI personal agent. Zuckerberg provided limited details regarding the gadget’s specific capabilities but noted that it enables users to communicate with their AI agents without needing to unlock a smartphone or open an application. He described it as the fastest method for users not wearing glasses to interact with Muse and share their surroundings.

While the price for the Muse Charm was not disclosed, Zuckerberg confirmed that Meta is currently finalizing the component layout. He stated that the company aims to have the device ready for shipment by December to meet holiday demand. “We’ve packed a lot of technology with this little guy,” he added.

  1. The Muse Charm sounds convenient for quick voice interactions. A dedicated device beats digging out my phone every time I need something done.

  2. $1,299 for VR glasses? That is steep. I wonder if the battery life will actually last through a normal day of use.
