Medina Power Station Hit in Yemen Conflict as Trump Pledges Swift Action Against Iran

In the wake of escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran, President Trump vowed that any conflict would be resolved swiftly, while additional American troops continued to deploy to the Middle East. Compounding regional tensions, a Saudi-led coalition announced on Thursday that Houthi rebels struck an electricity distribution facility in Medina, a city home to Islam’s second holiest site, the Prophet’s Mosque.

The incident triggered widespread condemnation across the Muslim world. Coalition officials stated that a Houthi drone targeted the Taibah electricity distribution station early Tuesday morning. While the Houthis denied responsibility, Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, asserted that evidence and wreckage confirmed the group’s involvement in the attack.

The coalition reported that one transformer was disabled but emphasized that the wider electrical network remained unaffected. This event marks a significant intensification of fighting in Yemen, where government forces have conducted multiple overnight airstrikes on Houthi positions, and explosions have been heard in the rebel-held capital, Sanaa, according to AFP journalists.
