Man Injured in Bronx After ICE Agent Discharges Weapon During Arrest

A man has been injured and is receiving medical attention after being shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an arrest operation in New York’s Bronx borough on Thursday. The incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. local time in the Marble Hill neighborhood, has triggered protests and intense political scrutiny.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) clarified that its officers were not involved in the shooting. According to an NYPD statement, the victim is currently conscious at a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified the individual as a “criminal illegal alien” from the Dominican Republic with ties to the Trinitarios gang.

In a statement posted on X, DHS confirmed that an ICE officer discharged their weapon during the incident but immediately rendered aid to the injured man. The agency emphasized that the individual survived and that the FBI is currently investigating the scene.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the shooting as an “unconscionable and incredible serious situation.” He announced that he has contacted President Donald Trump to demand an end to all ICE enforcement actions within the city. “I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities,” Mamdani said, adding that he would discuss the matter directly with the president.

Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated she has been briefed on the event and called for complete transparency from federal authorities. “New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why,” Hochul said on X.

The shooting comes amid a broader crackdown by the Trump administration, which has escalated ICE raids in major US cities to detain and deport individuals residing illegally. This incident follows a series of controversial fatal shootings involving federal immigration and border patrol agents during Trump’s second term. In January, an ICE agent killed Renee Good, a US citizen, in Minneapolis, followed days later by the death of another US citizen, Alex Pretti, at the hands of US Customs and Border Protection officers in the same city.

  1. Wait, if the Mayor is contacting the President directly about this, does that mean federal agents are operating without local oversight now?

  2. This feels like a deliberate escalation by the administration. Condemnation from local leaders is the bare minimum here, not a policy shift.
