LRA Attacks Resurface in CAR as Joseph Kony Remains At Large

Recent months have seen an uptick in violence in the eastern region of the Central African Republic, with a series of assaults attributed to the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). The Ugandan rebel group, notorious during the 1990s and 2000s for widespread massacres and the forced abduction of children, continues to pose a security threat in the area.

At the center of the ongoing instability is the group’s leader, Joseph Kony. Wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for over two decades, Kony has yet to be apprehended. In light of the recent resurgence of LRA activities, FRANCE 24 interviewed Leonie von Braun, the court’s lead investigator on the Kony case, to discuss the factors behind the militia’s continued operations.

5 responses to “LRA Attacks Resurface in CAR as Joseph Kony Remains At Large”

  1. The forced abductions are what haunt me most. How do children recover from such trauma while the perpetrators roam free?

  2. Honestly, after 20 years, this feels like a bureaucratic loop. Justice delayed is justice denied, plain and simple.

  3. Another surge in violence? The local communities are left defenseless again. When will the international community actually help them?

  4. Did anyone else notice the article didn’t mention why tracking has stalled? Seems like a major oversight by the investigators.

  5. It is terrifying that Kony remains at large after all these years. The ICC needs to step up its efforts immediately.
