UK: Man Charged With Plotting to Attack Nigel Farage

A British man has been charged with planning acts of terrorism targeting Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, police confirmed on Wednesday. The suspect, identified as Joshua Kerry, was already facing a murder charge related to the killing of former MP and Reform UK spokesperson Ann Widdecombe.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans described the probe as “hugely intensive and complex.” She stated that the investigation has resulted in this “very serious charge” against the 28-year-old.

According to court documents, Kerry is accused of preparing terrorist acts between May 31, 2024, and July 8, 2026. Prosecutors allege that Kerry killed Widdecombe by striking her head 21 times with a hammer while she was eating lunch. The murder prompted widespread calls across British political parties to enhance security measures for lawmakers.

Kerry is scheduled to appear before a London magistrates’ court on October 7 for a hearing regarding the new terrorism counts.

This case marks the third murder of a UK politician in the current decade. In 2016, Labour MP Jo Cox was killed by a neo-Nazi sympathizer, and in 2021, Conservative David Amess was murdered by an Islamic State supporter.
