Researchers analyzing data from the Large Hadron Collider have found no indications that the facility is generating microscopic quantum black holes. However, this negative result is significant because it sharply defines where such exotic physics might still be discovered.
The existence of these hypothetical black holes depends on the theory that extra spatial dimensions exist, which would cause gravity to become substantially stronger at extremely small scales. Detecting them could provide crucial insights into the long-sought theory of quantum gravity.
Negative results are still results! Better to know what isn’t there than chase ghosts forever.
So extra dimensions still might exist? I’m genuinely curious where physicists will look next if not here.
Disappointing, but science advances by ruling things out. This helps narrow the search for extra dimensions significantly.
