A federal judge has ordered the temporary suspension of government television advertisements promoting President Donald Trump ahead of the November midterm elections. On Monday evening, US District Judge Jennifer L. Rochon of the Southern District of New York issued a 14-day restraining order against the broadcasts, which are funded by taxpayer money.
The judicial intervention coincided with a campaign rally in Ohio, where the president sought to bolster the reelection bid of Senator Jon Husted. During the event, Trump launched a verbal attack on immigration, specifically targeting Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. He described her home country, Somalia, as “one of the worst countries anywhere on the planet” and criticized the governance there.
Trump also publicly endorsed Representative Max Miller, a Republican congressman facing allegations of domestic abuse but who continues to seek reelection, pointing him out from the audience.
In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani called for an end to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations following a shooting incident in the Marble Hill neighborhood. In his first media interview since the event, Mamdani compared the shooting to a mass casualty scene. The incident involved ICE agents wounding Oscar Belgal, 28, while he was driving with his five-year-old child inside the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Kansas Senator Roger Marshall announced he had settled a long-standing debt with a local bakery. Marshall posted a screenshot of a $1,300 payment, twice the amount of the original $678.75 invoice from Holly’s Sweet Treats, regarding a cake order for a 2020 election watch party. He expressed confusion over the delay, stating, “We have absolutely no idea how this happened,” after six years of collection attempts.
In international legal developments, US authorities have taken businessman Alvaro Pulido into custody. Pulido was indicted in 2019 and again in 2021 in Miami federal court on charges related to alleged bribery of Venezuelan officials to secure state contracts. The investigation is linked to his former business partner, Alex Saab, a former ally of ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
