A new long-distance hiking trail in Japan has been officially opened, linking six cities across a distance of 320 kilometers. The route provides an unprecedented opportunity for walkers to traverse diverse landscapes and urban centers in a single journey.
The newly established path connects the six municipalities, allowing tourists and locals to explore the region’s cultural and natural highlights without relying on motorized transport. The project highlights Japan’s growing focus on sustainable tourism and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.
By connecting these six distinct areas, the trail aims to boost local economies and encourage deeper engagement with communities along the route. Hikers can expect a mix of scenic views and urban exploration over the substantial 320-kilometer span.
320km is a serious undertaking. I hope they mark the water stations clearly, long trails in Japan can be thirsty work.
I walked the Kumano Kodo last year and it was life-changing. Cannot wait to try this new route!
