More than 10 days after a catastrophic wall of ice, rock, and mud swept through a Himalayan valley in Nepal, rescue teams have located another survivor. According to Reuters, Chandika Shrestha, a 64-year-old woman, was discovered alive on the fourth floor of her partially buried house in the Nuwakot district.
Nepal’s Armed Police Force carried out the rescue on September 5. Shrestha was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu for medical treatment, Reuters reported. The discovery highlights the ongoing efforts by emergency responders to find survivors amidst the widespread destruction caused by the landslide.
Does this mean there could be more survivors hidden under the debris? Rescue teams should keep searching.
I am still in shock. Finding someone alive after a decade is unheard of. This news is absolutely surreal.
Is it possible she had stored water and food on the fourth floor? That detail seems crucial to her survival.
Incredible story. Surviving over ten days in freezing conditions is truly a testament to human resilience.
