Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reported on Saturday that the death toll from Israeli military operations in Lebanon has surpassed 8,900 since October 2023, with approximately 30,600 people injured. The figures span from October 2023 through September 2026, reflecting a sustained campaign of violence that has inflicted severe casualties on the population.
According to the ministry, 4,358 individuals have been killed and 12,359 wounded since March 2, the date marking Israel’s latest escalation of its war against Lebanon. This intensification followed an Israeli strike on Beirut that killed 31 people in response to a Hezbollah rocket attack targeting northern Israel.
The health ministry also highlighted the dangers faced by emergency responders, noting that 179 Israeli attacks targeted ambulance crews since March. These strikes resulted in the deaths of 135 healthcare workers.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that 360,000 people remained displaced by the conflict in August, including at least 22,000 residing in collective shelters. The displacement crisis persists despite the signing of two US-brokered framework agreements in June, which aimed to establish peace terms.
Israel has maintained a military occupation in southern Lebanon since March, during which it announced the creation of a “buffer” zone. The June 26 agreement was contingent upon the disarmament of Hezbollah, a condition rejected by Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, who labeled the framework “null and void” and demanded Israel withdraw from occupied territories first.
Recent military activity indicates that hostilities continue unabated. On Friday, an Israeli airstrike on the southern town of Kfar Reman killed three people and injured 23 others. The Israeli military stated the operation targeted tunnels beneath the strategic Ali al-Taher bridge used by Hezbollah fighters. Additionally, the National News Agency reported that Israeli raids and artillery shelling hit seven towns in the Tyre and Nabatieh districts, though no casualties were reported from those specific incidents.
On Sunday morning, Israeli warplanes bombed the southern village of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah. Earlier in the year, on June 2, an Israeli air strike on Jabal Amel Hospital killed at least four people and injured 127 others.
