Trump Administration to End $45 Million HIV Aid for Namibia

The Trump administration has announced plans to terminate $45 million in financial support for Namibia’s HIV response program, bringing an end to more than twenty years of annual contributions.

According to a joint statement released on Friday by officials from Namibia and the United States, the final $45 million payment is scheduled for the 2027 fiscal year.

Officials noted that the termination of direct funding marks a strategic shift, as the support will transition into a technical cooperation model moving forward.

  1. Ending direct funding is a risky move. I hope the technical shift actually replaces the money, or cases will spike.

  2. Twenty years of support ending is concerning. Are we sure technical cooperation alone can sustain these lifesaving programs?
