Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks May Begin Next Year, Former MI6 Chief Says

John Sawers, the former head of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), stated that Russia-Ukraine peace talks could begin next year. Speaking at the FT Weekend Festival, he provided a cautious outlook on the prospect of diplomacy resolving the ongoing conflict.

Despite acknowledging the potential for dialogue, Sawers emphasized that a durable peace agreement remains unrealistic as long as Vladimir Putin holds the Russian presidency. His comments highlight the significant political obstacles standing in the way of a lasting settlement between the two nations.
