Oasis Reunion Doc Earns 8-Minute Standing Ovation at Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival was rocked on Saturday night as Liam and Noel Gallagher made a highly anticipated appearance for the world premiere of their documentary, “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” The film, which chronicles the band’s triumphant 2025 reunion tour, elicited an eight-minute standing ovation from the electric crowd at the Palazzo del Cinema. As the once-estranged brothers held hands and raised their fists in triumph, fans clamored for photos and autographs outside the venue.

Before the screening began, the audience erupted in chants of “C’mon, boys!” and “Fight!” One enthusiastic supporter waved a Manchester City flag from a balcony. Inside, the rowdiness continued throughout the runtime, with attendees clapping along to most of the songs featured in the film. By the time “Champagne Supernova” played, several viewers were moved to audible tears.

During the standing ovation, the Gallaghers appeared somewhat inexperienced with the traditional film festival protocol. Liam was seen checking his watch and mouthing “Should we fuck off?” before creator Steven Knight persuaded him to remain on stage. The atmosphere turned into what resembled a mosh pit when both brothers descended into the audience to sign autographs, marking one of the closest Venice has come to a rock concert experience.

Earlier on the red carpet, Italian fans dressed in band merch and bucket hats sang along to Oasis hits while waiting for the brothers. True to their rock ‘n’ roll image, Liam and Noel arrived on foot through the cinema entrance rather than by car, triggering screams from the crowd. Dressed in smart all-black attire—Liam in a blazer over a T-shirt and Noel in a zip-up jacket—the brothers posed together for photographs, again holding hands and raising them victoriously.

Directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, the documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at Oasis Live ‘25, described as one of the most anticipated comebacks in rock history. It features the first joint interview between the feuding brothers in over two decades. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 11, followed by a streaming debut on Disney+ later this year.

The Oasis Live ‘25 tour, which marked the siblings’ first performances together since 2009, sold out instantly and generated hundreds of millions of dollars across venues in the UK, North America, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. The success of the tour and the brothers’ ability to promote the documentary together has fueled rumors of a potential tour next year. Although they did not attend the press conference, cryptic Instagram teasers and a recent comment from Noel on Talksport—suggesting they need summer plans since there is no football tournament next year—have intensified speculation among fans.
