Port of Dover operations faced significant disruption on Saturday morning after dozens of masked individuals in dark clothing gathered at the UK’s key ferry terminal. Kent Police described the gathering as a protest, while port authorities confirmed an ongoing public order incident affecting traffic across the town.
The blockade impacted all routes in and out of the port, which serves as a major hub for passenger ferries connecting Britain to mainland Europe. P&O Ferries, which operates services between Dover and Calais, stated that access had been partially restored via the M2/A2 route but noted that services were still experiencing delays.
Video footage circulated online showed protesters wearing balaclavas, hoods, and hats chanting in the Kent town. Far-right activist Tommy Robinson shared the footage on X, captioning it as a “warning shot to the establishment” and claiming that patriots could mobilize large crowds without social media organization.
Mike Tapp, the Labour MP for Dover and Deal, strongly condemned the demonstrators on X, urging them to return home. He highlighted the negative impact on local life, noting the cancellation of the Dover Park Run and increased difficulties for residents.
Tapp also addressed the political motivations behind the unrest, pointing out that small boat crossings across the Channel have decreased by 40 percent. Kent Police confirmed they are on-site engaging with the protesters. This is a developing story.
