A federal judge ruled on Friday that former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) is subject to litigation under North Carolina’s homewrecker law concerning her romantic involvement with a married member of her security detail.
Sinema has publicly acknowledged her relationship with Matthew Ammel in 2024. However, her legal team had contended that she could not be pursued in court within North Carolina.
I had no idea North Carolina still had a homewrecker law on the books. That is genuinely surprising to hear.
Does this actually hold up in modern court? Seems like a very unusual legal angle for a senator’s personal life.
So her legal team conceded that she can be sued there. That seems like a significant strategic mistake during the process.
I hope this doesn’t distract from the actual policy issues people care about. Just another celebrity lawsuit drama now.
