Gavin and Stacey actor Rob Brydon has expressed regret over declining an opportunity to interview Dolly Parton, having prioritized a family vacation in Arizona instead.
Brydon presented the BBC series Honky Tonk Road Trip, which explored 100 years of country music across the American South. During the production, he visited Dollywood, Parton’s theme park, where relatives had traced the Parton and Owens family lines back to Wales.
Although he was offered the chance to sit down with the country music legend after filming concluded, Brydon decided to remain on his holiday. Parton passed away on August 25 in a Nashville hospital following a brief cancer battle, having been admitted four days earlier for kidney and autoimmune issues.
Speaking to Lucy Owen on BBC Radio Wales, Brydon admitted, “I sort of regret it now. I kind of wish that I had gone back because I never met her.”
What a sad and relatable regret. Never take a chance with a legend for a holiday. Life is too short.
