The resumption of hostilities between the United States and Iran has reignited global concerns regarding potential disruptions to oil supplies. As the conflict enters its seventh month, crude prices are projected to record their sharpest weekly increase since mid-July, climbing by 7.6%.
A critical factor driving these market fluctuations is the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime chokepoint through which approximately 25% of the world’s oil supply passes. The strait has remained blocked since the onset of the war, significantly amplifying uncertainty in energy markets.
Seventy-six percent in one week is insane. My commute just got a lot more expensive.
Does anyone think the strait will reopen anytime soon? The blockage seems to be the main issue here.
This is exactly why we need to accelerate renewable energy adoption before geopolitics dictate our gas prices.
I remember when this last happened, prices spiked and then crashed. Hopefully history doesn’t repeat itself this time.
