Nintendo Confirms Dual Direct Events for September to Mark Zelda’s 40th Anniversary

Nintendo has confirmed that two separate Direct livestream events will take place next month. The first, scheduled for September 8 at 10 AM ET, is dedicated to celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise. This 30-minute broadcast is expected to focus heavily on the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake, which was initially revealed in June as a comprehensive redesign of the Nintendo 64 classic.

While fans may hope for announcements regarding a future mainline Zelda title, industry observers consider it premature for news on a successor to Tears of the Kingdom. Potential highlights could include a teaser for the upcoming Zelda film, updates on a new 2D entry, or a cross-promotional segment involving Mario Kart World.

The following day, September 9, Nintendo will hold its traditional 45-minute Direct livestream, also beginning at 10 AM ET. Although the Ocarina of Time remake is viewed as a likely major holiday release, the presentation is expected to cover a broader lineup of upcoming titles. Attendees can anticipate a final trailer for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, launching on September 17, as well as new footage for Switch Sports Resort, which is slated for an October 22 release and is exclusive to the Switch 2.

Additionally, the stream is likely to feature trailers for cross-platform holiday releases such as Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World and Final Fantasy Resonance, alongside showcases of various cozy games. The extended runtime raises hopes for surprises concerning long-awaited entries in major franchises like Mario, Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros., and Pikmin, none of which have received recent mainline news since the Switch 2 launch over a year ago.
