A sea eagle that defied veterinary expectations by surviving into adulthood despite a severe wing injury has been observed flying over Scotland’s west coast. The bird, known as the Isle of Mull’s “miracle eagle,” fell from its nest during a storm in 2023, an incident that led the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to label it as such due to the low probability of its survival.
Experts monitoring the island’s sea eagle population initially doubted the male chick would live past its infancy. However, the bird has been sighted three years later, soaring above the island with a distinctive kink in its wing clearly visible. Dave Sexton, a retired RSPB officer who has studied the local sea eagle population for over two decades, described the rare sighting as “incredible.”
