Karen Read Attorney Reflects on Deadlocked Jury and Mistrial Stay

During a recent broadcast with WBZ-TV, David Yannetti, who served as legal counsel for Karen Read throughout both of her murder trials, addressed the complexities attorneys face when juries fail to reach a verdict. Yannetti described the experience as deeply unsettling, noting that it mirrors the dynamics observed during Read’s initial trial proceedings.

He recounted how, despite strong confidence in their legal strategy, the prolonged deliberation period left his team questioning the internal deliberations of the jurors. “We expected a quick verdict despite the length of the trial,” Yannetti explained. “And when it dragged on, you can’t help but speculate on, what’s going on in there? How can somebody not go along with us? Who’s fighting? Who’s with us, who’s not?” He emphasized that lawyers are left with “zero answers” because the jury room remains inaccessible.

Yannetti also assessed the current standoff, suggesting that the deadlock validates the work of Read’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington. He stated that Reddington successfully convinced at least some jurors that Read should not be held criminally responsible for the charges.
