England secured a dominant series victory over Ireland with a comfortable six-wicket win in the second one-day international at The OurCoop County Ground in Derby. Fast bowler Issy Wong produced a standout performance, claiming her first international five-wicket haul to leave the Irish side dismissed for just 165 runs in 47 overs.
Chasing a modest target, England reached 166-4 in only 23 overs. Opener Maia Bouchier led the charge with a rapid 45 from 31 balls, forming a solid 54-run partnership with Sophia Dunkley during the early stages of the innings.
Despite the ease of the chase, England experienced unnecessary complications in the middle order. Bouchier was dismissed after inexplicably running out Dunkley, who had scored 20. Follow-up collapses saw Alice Capsey bowled for a duck and Jodi Grewcock caught for 24, but Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson stabilized the innings with an unbeaten 41-run stand.
Ireland’s batting lineup struggled significantly without key players Gaby Lewis and Orla Prendergast. Lewis fell for 19 to Wong, leaving Amy Hunter to anchor the innings with her second consecutive fifty, scoring 64 off 96 deliveries. However, Ireland lost their final six wickets for just 25 runs after Hunter’s dismissal, having been restricted by Kia McCartney’s economical spell of 2-45.
The series concludes at Worcester on Sunday, leaving England to cap off their international summer with a clean sweep.
