Opposition has intensified against Scotland’s rapid expansion of datacentres, with hundreds gathering outside the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to demand an immediate halt to the industry’s growth. The protest was sparked in part by at least 20 proposed projects, including a facility in Auchtertool, Fife, which has been described as the second largest in the world.
At the rally, Kat Jones led the demonstrators. Standing near Arthur’s Seat, she energized the crowd, calling out to attendees from across the country, including Lammermuir, Ayrshire, and Aberdeen, to underscore the nationwide reach of the concerns.
Those power demands are scary. We cannot sacrifice our grid for server farms while homes face shortages.
Second largest in the world? That is huge for jobs and investment. Maybe we need better grid planning, not a stop.
Does pausing actually solve anything? What is the plan to integrate these without crippling existing infrastructure?
I hope they demand green energy proof first. Building more datacenters on fossil fuels defeats the whole climate goal.
