Creator of Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers Dies at 84

The man behind the phenomenon of Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers has passed away at the age of 84. The group, which featured Pickles, his son Andrew—who also served as a director for Mastermix—alongside Doncaster DJ and producer Les Hemstock, became a staple of British pop culture.

The act achieved significant commercial success, securing five UK top 10 singles and a top 10 album with ‘Jive Bunny The Album.’ Their brand was instantly recognizable, featuring a cartoon rabbit on album covers and in music videos, with costumed actors making promotional appearances as the character.

Steve White, a DJ who knew Pickles personally, reflected on the group’s impact in an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield. He described their chart achievements as ‘a people’s success story,’ noting that ‘it was something that the family could enjoy.’

The group’s legacy continues to resonate with fans. In December 2024, Mastermix released a new production titled ‘3, 6, 9.’ The company stated that the release was intended to celebrate the origins of Jive Bunny while incorporating a modern twist.
