Luke Humphries secured his place in the World Grand Prix semifinals on Friday night with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Niels Zonneveld. The world number two maintained his unbeaten record at the tournament, having previously dismissed Dave Chisnall and Jermaine Wattimena in straight sets.
Although Humphries averaged 85.91 and hit four maximum 180s, he found his finishing somewhat less sharp than usual, converting just one-third of his checkout opportunities. However, his composure at critical junctures was sufficient to breeze through against the Dutchman.
The 31-year-old will now face compatriot James Wade in the final four after Wade produced a dominant 3-0 performance to eliminate third seed Gian van Veen.
So Humphries plays Wade in the semis? This tournament just got way more interesting overnight.
Wade beating Van Veen straight sets? I didn’t see that coming at all. What a quarter-final!
Humphries seems untouchable right now. That average is insane despite the checkout woes.
