Honor has officially released its new Magic 9 series of flagship smartphones in China today, headlined by the Magic 9 Pro Max. The device introduces a significant design overhaul, a robust imaging system, and an exceptionally large battery capacity.
This release marks Honor’s first major flagship announcement since it publicly partnered with cinematography equipment manufacturer Arri. The collaboration is immediately visible in the phone’s camera module, which draws inspiration from the iconic “three-lens turret” originally featured on the Arriflex 35 film camera introduced in 1937. The design includes a distinctive knurled texture surrounding the primary lens.
Beyond aesthetics, Arri has influenced the phone’s imaging capabilities. The device supports shooting in Arri LogC3 format and includes 14 preset Arri Look LUTs, along with access to Arri’s broader library of tools.
The Magic 9 Pro Max is available in a mossy green finish, with black and silver color options also launching alongside it.
That mossy green finish is bold. Honor really is pivoting hard into the pro-creator space with this launch.
Colossal battery is exactly what I need. Hopefully it doesn’t make the phone unbearably heavy though.
The Arri partnership is fascinating. I wonder if the LogC3 support actually matches what filmmakers need in a real workflow?
