Agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a pre-dawn raid at the Washington, D.C. home of Representative Ilhan Omar, according to three sources familiar with the matter who spoke to CBS News.
The investigation, which is centered on the Minnesota Democrat’s immigration documentation, is being led by HSI with assistance from the Department of Justice (DOJ). A DOJ statement confirmed that HSI executed a search warrant obtained by the agency and described the action as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
The raid follows months of scrutiny from the Trump administration. In September, border czar Tom Homan told Fox News that he could confirm ICE was aware of reported issues regarding Omar that required further examination.
“I said months ago that there’s something that’s been reported and needs to be looked at,” Homan stated at the time. Omar subsequently denied having any contact with federal investigators in connection with the probe.
Omar, a frequent critic of President Trump, has faced repeated public attacks from the White House. She currently serves as the representative for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.
I remember reading about her visa history years ago. Seems like this has been brewing for a while, not just a random Trump administration move.
If she followed the rules, she has nothing to fear. But using HSI to target a political rival is a dangerous precedent for American democracy.
Wait, did she actually lie on her immigration forms? The article says there are issues, but doesn’t confirm the facts. We need more details before jumping to conclusions.
This feels incredibly political. A pre-dawn raid on a sitting congresswoman is extreme and raises serious concerns about weaponizing federal agencies.
