Google Home Enables AI Agents to Control Smart Devices via MCP

Google is broadening access to its smart home ecosystem by allowing external AI agents to manage connected devices. Through a new integration utilizing the standardized Model Context Protocol, tools such as Claude and Open Claw can now interact with Google Home infrastructure.

Taylor Lehman, group product manager for Google Home & Nest, explained in a blog post that the initiative permits any AI agent supporting MCP to securely handle device operations and review event history within the user’s Google Home setup. The update aims to let agents act on behalf of users across the entire ecosystem.
