German federal prosecutors formally charged seven suspected members of the Islamist militant group Hamas on Friday regarding an alleged plan to execute a deadly attack against Israeli or Jewish targets within Germany or Austria.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office, based in Karlsruhe, stated that the accused individuals are implicated in assisting with the procurement of weapons and participating in the preparations for the attack. Investigators determined that the suspects had progressed beyond general preparatory phases and were actively pursuing a concrete plan for violence.
Authorities noted that the men were arrested in Germany and abroad over recent months as part of the ongoing investigation into the plot.
