France TV Distribution to Launch ‘The Story of Marceau Miller’ Adaptation at Mipcom

France TV Distribution has announced plans to launch the television adaptation of “The Story of Marceau Miller” at the upcoming Mipcom market in Cannes, scheduled for October 12-15. The four-part series is produced by Gaumont Production Télévision for France Télévisions and is based on the international bestseller written by the pseudonymous author Marceau Miller.

Originally published in France in 2025 by Éditions de La Martinière, the novel generated significant global interest prior to its release, sparking bidding wars at the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair. U.S. publisher Blackstone notes that the author’s identity remains a mystery, potentially mirroring the enigmatic nature of the protagonist within the suspense narrative.

The series follows the aftermath of Marceau Miller’s sudden death while climbing in the French Alps near Lake Geneva. Following the tragedy, his wife Sarah uncovers a hidden manuscript detailing the disappearance of Marceau’s sister, Jade, two decades earlier. The discovery ignites a harrowing investigation that exposes long-buried secrets and fractures within their circle of friends, forcing Sarah to reevaluate her understanding of her husband.

Aurélie Iniesta, a producer at Gaumont, emphasized the emotional core of the adaptation. “From the moment we read the novel, it was clear to us that it had all the material for a series: a highly addictive investigation, secrets gradually coming to light, a group of friends bound by 20 years of shared history, and above all, tremendous emotional depth,” Iniesta told Variety.

Iniesta added that the project aims to balance genre thrills with human drama. “The Story of Marceau Miller is an extremely gripping thriller, but it is also deeply emotionally powerful… Beneath the suspense and the twists, it is also a deeply moving story about love, friendship, grief, and loyalty,” she said, noting the show features strong female characters alongside complex male roles.

The veiled identity of the original author is expected to serve as a key selling point. Marceau Miller is credited as a writer on the adaptation and collaborated closely with the creative team. “Marceau Miller was involved in writing the adaptation… and gave the writers and director David Hourrègue real freedom to make the characters and the universe their own,” Iniesta explained.

Julia Schulte, senior vice president of international sales at France TV Distribution, highlighted the book’s existing global reach. With editions published in more than 15 territories, including Germany, Italy, Korea, and the United States, and a second volume recently released, the property already holds strong international appeal for both linear and non-linear platforms.

The series is directed by David Hourrègue, known for “Désenchantées” and “Rivages,” with a screenplay by Marceau Miller, Vinciane Mokry, William Willebrod Wegimont, and Justine Kim Gautier. The cast includes Elisa Erka, Thierry Godard, Capucine Malarre, Fleur Geffrier, Amaury De Crayencour, Oscar Copp, Marc Arnaud, and Steve Tientcheu.

  1. Keep the author’s identity secret? Please tell me they won’t accidentally reveal who Marceau Miller really is in the show’s promo.

  2. How refreshing to see a story where the woman driving the investigation is the emotional core rather than just a plot device. Well done.

  3. Another Gaumont production? The quality is usually reliable, but I hope they don’t overshadow the mystery with too much melodrama.

  4. I haven’t read the book, but that premise is intriguing. A hidden manuscript uncovering twenty-year-old secrets? Count me in.
