France and Germany have put forward a proposal for a new legal mechanism that would allow the European Union to act quickly against trade wars or practices such as dumping that threaten to harm the bloc’s economy.
Although French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the initiative is not aimed specifically at any single nation, the announcement follows closely ahead of EU Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen’s upcoming visit to China, where she is expected to address unfair trade practices.
