Google’s latest line of laptops, dubbed Googlebooks, has launched with a notable disparity between its physical build and its operating system. According to a recent review by The Verge, while the five newly released models boast hardware ranging from great to excellent, the software experience is currently a weak point.
Four members of The Verge’s staff have been actively testing the devices, and internal communications via Slack have reportedly become a venue for expressing collective frustration, disappointment, and bewilderment. While the concept of a smartly designed alternative to Windows or macOS for Android smartphone users is appealing, the devices are riddled with kinks and quirks that need resolution.
