At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard officially confirmed the development of a new StarCraft title, showcasing a cinematic trailer for what the studio describes as a “story-driven open-world shooter.” The upcoming game is currently referred to simply as StarCraft.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for the franchise, ending nearly a decade since the 2017 remaster of the original game and 16 years following the launch of StarCraft II. In a statement regarding the project, Blizzard remarked that “it’s about damn time” for a new entry.
However, players should not expect the game immediately. The studio confirmed that the title is slated for a spring 2030 release, leaving a gap of approximately four years. This long development cycle follows years of rumors regarding various StarCraft shooter projects that ultimately failed to reach completion, including reports from 2024 about another attempt at the genre.
The trailer opened with the tagline, “From the farthest reaches of the stars, a new mission calls,” signaling the official return of the iconic sci-fi series after repeated cancellations and delays in the past.
