During its recent product announcement event, Apple introduced the AirPods 5, an upgrade to its entry-level wireless earbuds. While the latest iPhone remained the headline feature, the company confirmed that the new AirPods 5 offer a significant improvement in active noise cancellation (ANC), reducing background noise by 50% over its predecessor. Apple stated that the new acoustic architecture delivers the best ANC performance currently available in an open-ear wireless earbud design.
Similar to the AirPods 4, Apple is offering two configurations for the AirPods 5. The base model, which includes a standard charging case, is priced at $129. Consumers who prefer wireless charging capabilities can opt for the upgraded case version, which starts at $149. Both models will be available for purchase beginning September 18.
As the AirPods 5 were the only audio products unveiled at the event, details regarding the rumored camera-equipped AirPods remain pending. Earlier leaks spotted these devices, but according to Bloomberg, their launch is expected to be delayed until next year. In the meantime, the AirPods 5 serve as the immediate update to Apple’s affordable audio lineup.
