Alongside the launch of the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, Apple introduced a significantly redesigned Health application on Wednesday. The update leverages Apple Intelligence to synthesize user health data more effectively, delivering enhanced insights and personalized recommendations.
Key additions include a new Insights tab that aggregates timely information and offers tailored guidance. The app now computes a “readiness” score and a “Health Age,” the latter comparing an individual’s biological metrics—such as VO2 max, sleep patterns, and blood biomarkers—against their chronological age.
Additionally, a longevity tab assesses overall wellness by analyzing data from both the Apple Watch and iPhone, covering areas like movement, heart health, and sleep. To support this, Apple announced a partnership with Quest Diagnostics, offering users a 50-biomarker panel for $119. This allows lab-derived data to be integrated directly into the app’s health assessments.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, the updated Health app provides deeper analysis in fitness and cardiovascular health. For example, it may suggest interval training during morning runs to boost cardio performance. The application also features in-depth movement assessments designed to assist aging users or those recovering from injuries, complete with trainer demonstrations that simulate having a coach present.
The revamped Health app is scheduled to roll out later this year, initially launching in the United States with English language support.
Imagine if your phone could tell you to hydrate before you even felt thirsty. Science fiction becoming reality!
I love the initiative, but I am skeptical about how accurate Quest’s biomarkers truly are for individual health tracking.
Does this require an Apple Watch Ultra, or will the feature work with older series devices too?
Is $119 for bloodwork competitive? Quest is pricey compared to direct-to-consumer options like Everlywell.
Finally, a simple metric that motivates me to prioritize sleep and movement. Health Age is a game-changer.
