In a recent interview with Cigar Aficionado, Anthony Mackie opened up about his close friendship with Chris Evans, revealing that Evans shared the “Avengers: Endgame” script with him early on so he could see exactly how his character would assume the mantle of Captain America.
“Chris Evans is somebody who I hold near and dear,” Mackie said. “We’re at Chris’ house, and because he’s Captain America, he gets the [script] pages first.” Mackie recalled Evans asking if he had read the latest scene, and upon Mackie saying no, Evans handed over the script. “And it was really great and really emotional to learn it from a friend,” Mackie added.
The actor noted the rarity of such a gesture in Hollywood: “I don’t know a lot of actors who would have appreciated or celebrated that moment with a fellow actor in that way because I was taking his job for all intents and purposes.”
Hollywood friendships like this are rare gems. Mackie needed that emotional support during the transition.
