AfD Projected to Win Saxony Election But Faces Isolation in Coalition Talks

Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) is projected to secure a significant victory in the regional election in Saxony-Anhalt, capturing approximately 44 percent of the vote. This result more than doubles the party’s performance from five years ago, marking a substantial shift in the state’s political landscape.

Despite this electoral surge, the far-right party faces a formidable obstacle in governing: every other major political party has ruled out entering a coalition with the AfD. Consequently, the party confronts an uphill battle to form a state government, raising questions about whether this could lead to Germany’s first far-right state administration since World War II.
