Costa Rican President Laura Fernandez has stated that the presence of United States ground troops could serve to strengthen the country’s national security framework. However, she emphasized that there are currently no active plans for such a deployment.
Fernandez clarified that any potential arrival of US military personnel would not occur without prior approval from the nation’s legislature. The remarks underscore the constitutional requirement for congressional consent before foreign forces can be stationed in Costa Rica.
