US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday in New York, the White House confirmed. The two leaders are currently in the city to participate in the United Nations General Assembly proceedings.
According to Trump’s itinerary released on Sunday evening, the bilateral talks will commence at 5:35 p.m. (2135 GMT).
Macron is traveling to New York from Saint Pierre and Miquelon, a French archipelago located off the coast of Canada. His visit there followed meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, highlighting diplomatic engagements between the three nations.
During the UN General Assembly week, the French president also plans to hold separate discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the event.
The Zelensky meeting on the sidelines is the real story. Trump, Macron, and Zelensky all in one city is a lot of pressure.
Will they actually discuss anything concrete, or is this just another photo op before the main UNGA sessions begin?
