AI regulation is expected to be a primary subject during the upcoming state meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Over the weekend, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held discussions with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in New York. The two officials described the talks as successful and agreed to create a “U.S.-China AI Dialogue,” which will include a mechanism for notifying both nations of significant AI-related incidents.

The bilateral meeting is scheduled for Thursday and will feature a state dinner attended by a notable group of corporate leaders. According to reports, attendees include JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, underscoring the intersection of high-level diplomacy and private-sector innovation.
