Exactly 60 years after creator Gene Roddenberry’s “Wagon Train to the Stars” concept evolved into the premiere of “The Man Trap” on NBC in September 1966, the franchise is celebrating its milestone with a global array of events. What began as a single hour-long episode has expanded over six decades into nine live-action series, three animated shows, and 14 feature films, maintaining a legacy defined by optimistic humanism and adventure.
Paramount and international partners are coordinating festivities that include restored 4K theatrical screenings of the first four films from September 4-8. These presentations will play across approximately 750 AMC, Cinemark Alamo Drafthouse, and Regal locations, paired for the first time with their corresponding “The Original Series” television episodes. Select theaters are offering limited-edition USS Enterprise popcorn buckets and anniversary drink cups while supplies last.
Television programming will also highlight the anniversary. On September 7, “Entertainment Tonight” will air an “ET Vault Unlocked” episode featuring archival interviews with Roddenberry and cast members. The following day, CBS and Paramount+ will broadcast special “Star Trek”-themed episodes of “The Price Is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal,” featuring appearances by Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck from “Strange New Worlds.” Nick at Nite is scheduled to run a marathon of “The Big Bang Theory’s” most notable “Star Trek” references.
Internationally, fans in the UK have the opportunity to attempt a Guinness World Record on September 8 at London’s Science Museum. Participants will gather for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute. In Los Angeles, Gene Roddenberry’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star will be polished and restored in a ceremony hosted by the Roddenberry family, the Hollywood Historic Trust, and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Commemorating the franchise’s space-themed roots, European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot will wear a Captain’s Delta badge from “Strange New Worlds” aboard the International Space Station on September 8, accompanied by special commemorative content.
