A Russian drone strike targeted the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) headquarters in Kyiv, resulting in injuries to five individuals, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed. Emergency responders have been deployed to the site, with Zelensky assuring that all affected parties will receive necessary assistance.
Following the attack, images circulated online showing black smoke billowing from two windows on the building’s facade. Mayor Vitali Klitschko verified that five people were hurt but did not provide further details regarding their condition or location inside the offices.
Zelensky stated that he has instructed his team to deliver a “tangible response” to Moscow, one that mirrors the strike, once preparations are complete, with full military support.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha condemned the incident as a significant escalation, arguing that the timing of the attack undermines diplomatic efforts. He stated that the strike reveals Moscow’s rejection of diplomacy during its renewed push for peace.
Separately, the Russian defence ministry reported strikes on a cargo vessel in the port of Chornomorsk and a tanker near Odesa. These attacks are part of a recent trend of escalated daytime strikes on Ukrainian targets, often involving faster, jet-powered drones that are more difficult to intercept. It remains unclear what type of munition was used in the hit on the SBU building.
