Prue Leith Celebrates Freedom of Aging Ahead of Cheltenham Literature Festival Talk

Dame Prue Leith is embracing the liberties that come with age, noting that becoming older brings a sense of liberation from public opinion. “When you’re old, you don’t give a toss what anyone thinks, really, so you feel very free,” she said, adding that one can even take afternoon naps without being judged.

The former Bake Off judge is set to explore these themes alongside fellow authors Gyles Brandreth and Kathy Lette. The trio will appear on stage at the Cheltenham Literature Festival on 15 October for a discussion titled “Growing Old Disgracefully.” Their goal is to challenge the stigma surrounding aging, demonstrating to audiences that growing older is “not the dreaded thing” it is often portrayed to be.

Dame Prue emphasized the confidence that arrives with maturity. “You come into your own, you don’t care what people think, you’re not going to change. And so the world has to just put up with it,” she stated.
