Interior Secretary Announces Excavation Start for Trump’s Proposed Arch

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced that excavation activities for President Donald Trump’s proposed 250-foot triumphal arch are set to commence within a two-week window. Burgum shared the update on social media, noting the lengthy delay before construction can begin.

“We are pleased to announce that after a very long wait (over 125 years!), we are preparing to start, over the next two-week period, the excavation work necessary for the Great Triumphal Arch and Military Observation Deck,” Burgum wrote on Thursday.

The project is located at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island, positioned between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

  1. Is the location between two major memorials actually appropriate for a triumphal arch? Seems tone-deaf to me.
