A live-action adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons’ Gothic horror setting, Ravenloft, is currently in development at Netflix. The project features Alfonso Cuarón as executive producer and John August as both writer and executive producer, alongside Hasbro Entertainment, according to Deadline.
The series is expected to explore one of the franchise’s most legendary campaign worlds, which received a recent update earlier this year with the release of Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.
Reporting indicates that the narrative will center on Strahd von Zarovich, the infamous vampire Darklord. The storyline aims to depict his transformation, tracing a path from a tragic antihero to a figure defined by power, obsession, love, and undeath.
Cuarón directing a vampire origin story sounds absolutely terrifying and brilliant. I am here for it.
Really? A live-action D&D show that isn’t a comedy? I need more details on the tone immediately.
As a long-time Ravenloft player, I am skeptical but cautiously optimistic about finally getting Strahd right.
