EcoFlow has introduced the fourth generation of its River series, positioning the latest models as ultra-compact yet high-performance solutions for portable energy needs. The update brings significant improvements in battery chemistry, capacity, and output flexibility, targeting users who require reliable power in minimal space.
At the smaller end of the spectrum, the River 260 Gen4 features a 256Wh battery, while the River 520 Gen4 doubles that with 512Wh. According to EcoFlow, these capacities store approximately 2.5 times and 5 times the energy of the largest power banks currently permitted on airlines, respectively. A key safety and longevity upgrade is the shift to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, which the company notes is significantly less volatile than traditional lithium-ion variants and offers a longer overall lifespan.
In terms of connectivity, the River 260 Gen4 is equipped with four USB ports and a single AC outlet capable of delivering up to 300W of continuous power. The River 520 Gen4 retains the same USB port configuration but expands its AC capabilities with dual outlets, providing greater versatility for powering multiple devices simultaneously. The new units are designed to handle a range of essential gear, including portable refrigerators and satellite internet terminals like the Starlink Mini, while also charging smartphones and other personal electronics.
