Avalanche on Russian Peak Kills 11 Climbers

At least 11 climbers have died and six others were injured after an avalanche swept down Mount Mizhirgi in Russia’s southern Kabardino-Balkaria Republic, local emergency services reported.

The disaster occurred on Sunday, September 7, 2026, on one of the highest peaks in the North Caucasus region. The volume of snow and ice that cascaded down the mountain buried the group, leading to the significant loss of life and multiple injuries among the survivors.

Authorities are currently assessing the situation as rescue efforts continue in the affected area.
