Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins and her Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson, squared off on Thursday night for the second Senate debate of the campaign cycle, marking a pivotal moment as the closely watched race heads toward Election Day. The hourlong event, hosted by WMTW, saw both candidates fiercely defend their records while directly attacking each other’s positions on critical national issues.
The debate, which took on a notably testy tone, featured sharp exchanges between the two rivals. A significant portion of the confrontation focused on the ongoing conflict involving Iran, with both senators attempting to highlight their contrasting approaches to foreign policy and national security.
Besides international affairs, the candidates also traded blows over domestic economic concerns, particularly the impact of high prices on Maine families. As the general election approaches, the candidates are intensifying their efforts to persuade undecided voters, making this debate a key battleground for messaging and momentum in one of the country’s most competitive Senate races.
